SkinPen® is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device and one of my favorite treatments for building healthier, stronger skin from within. SkinPen creates thousands of controlled microchannels in the skin, triggering your body’s natural wound-healing response and stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin. Over time, this remodeling process can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, enlarged pores, uneven texture, and overall skin quality. What can you expect? A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to keep you comfortable. Afterward, your skin will typically look pink to red—similar to a mild sunburn—and may feel warm, tight, or sensitive. Most redness improves within 24–48 hours, although mild dryness, flaking, or sensitivity can last a few days. Microneedling is not an instant-gratification treatment. Your skin begins its natural repair process immediately, but collagen remodeling continues for weeks to months, meaning your results gradually improve long after your appointment. For optimal collagen stimulation and skin rejuvenation, I typically recommend a series of 3 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance treatments approximately every 3–6 months, depending on your skin and goals. More treatments may be recommended when addressing concerns such as acne scarring or more significant texture changes. SkinPen is appropriate for a wide range of skin types and requires relatively minimal downtime—making it a great option for anyone looking to improve their skin quality without changing what makes them look like themselves.
